1. What changed, in three sentences. On 21 November 2025 the four Labour Codes were brought into force and twenty-nine central labour Acts were repealed, including the Employees' Provident Funds Act 1952, the Employees' State Insurance Act 1948, the Payment of Gratuity Act 1972, the Payment of Bonus Act 1965, the Minimum Wages Act 1948, the Payment of Wages Act 1936, the Maternity Benefit Act 1961, the Factories Act 1948, the Contract Labour Act 1970 and the Industrial Disputes Act 1947. All four Codes use a single new definition of "wages" which changes the base on which provident fund, gratuity, bonus, overtime and leave encashment are computed, with effect from that date and without any action by the Company. The Central Rules notified on 8 May 2026 apply to central-sphere establishments; the Company is [central-sphere / State-sphere], and [the State of [State] has / has not] notified its own rules.
